Following our fabulously lavish production of the King and I, we
were pleased to receive a very good review from Anne Cox in the
Dunstable Gazette. Please Click Here to see it.
King and I Update
Actor from 1956 film version to introduce Saturday performance
DAOS is pleased to announce that the Saturday evening performance
will be introduced by Martin Benson, British stage and film actor who
has played noted supporting roles in films both in England and the U.S.
He is best known in the U.S. for his non-singing role as the Kralahome,
in the 1956 film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King and I"
and also the part of Solo in Goldfinger.
Martin will also be staying to watch the performance.
The King and I
Grove Theatre, Dunstable - October 17th & 18th 2008
Friday & Saturday evenings 7.30pm
Saturday matinee 2.30pm
Returning to The Grove after its sell-out production of "42nd Street"
last year, DAOS present the lavish musical "The King and I".
This is the story of the widowed English school teacher, Mrs Anna
Leonowens, who arrives in Siam in 1862 to tutor the King's children and
wives. With stunning sets, costumes and a glorious score that weaves
through the growing relationship between Anna and the King. There is
also a darker subplot surrounding the affair between Burmese slave
Tuptim and her secret lover.
One of Rodgers and Hammerstein's most famous shows which includes
unforgettable numbers such as Getting To Know You, Shall We Dance, I
Whistle a Happy Tune, Hello Young Lovers and the March of the Siamese
Children this promises to be a event to remember!
